AIRH Meets FINAS Top Management to Launch China-ASEAN AI Short Drama Festival and Build a New Regional Digital Content Cooperation Platform.
KUALA LUMPUR — Asia Innovation Research Hub (AIRH) has held an official meeting at the headquarters of Malaysia’s National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) with FINAS Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Bin Mutalib and senior marketing executives. Both sides conducted in-depth deliberations on the China-ASEAN AI Short Drama Festival and reached a series of consensus on deepening digital content industry cooperation between China and ASEAN member states.
As Malaysia’s authoritative regulatory body for the film, television and cultural sectors, FINAS is central to upgrading the country’s creative industry, facilitating cross-border collaboration and cultivating a unified regional content ecosystem. The high-level meeting marks a tangible milestone in China-Malaysia cooperation on AI-enabled creative innovation.
Dedicated to bolstering industrial synergy and cross-border partnership between China and Southeast Asia, AIRH has long specialised in the digital economy, cultural technology and transnational industrial cooperation. Ms. Fang Fang, Vice President of AIRH, commented that widespread AI adoption in content production and distribution, alongside the booming short-form narrative content sector, is driving structural transformation across regional cultural industries. In this context, the China-ASEAN AI Narrative Short Drama Cooperation Platform will leverage artificial intelligence to build a full-spectrum industrial mechanism encompassing creation, resource matching, copyright trading and commercialisation, enabling cross-border circulation and scalable growth of premium regional creative content.
Catering to the Chinese and ASEAN consumer markets, the platform integrates industry competitions and institutional collaboration to discover emerging creators and original intellectual property assets, and advance co-production, brand partnership and multi-channel content distribution. Furthermore, it will pioneer region-adapted copyright protection frameworks and content compliance standards, supporting sustainable, regulated and standardised growth across the regional digital content industry.
FINAS CEO Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Bin Mutalib stated that Malaysia’s multicultural landscape, multilingual talent pool and strategic geographic position across ASEAN offer solid foundations for film production and cross-border content dissemination. The strategic partnership with AIRH will allow Malaysia to absorb China’s proven expertise in AI-driven content creation, platform operation and commercialisation, upgrade local creative industrial capacity, and amplify the global influence of Malaysian cultural content.
FINAS added that the collaboration will accelerate ASEAN’s industrial progress in AI content application. It will deliver actionable industry practice to shape regional business models, technical benchmarks and content governance protocols, fostering a more orderly, standardised and sustainable ecosystem for AI-powered creative content across Southeast Asia.
The China-ASEAN AI Short Drama Festival acts as both a premier showcase for creative innovation and a pivotal cross-border hub bridging Chinese and ASEAN cultural industries, injecting fresh impetus into regional digital economic integration and cultural exchange.
The project has entered a critical implementation phase. Moving forward, both parties will refine cross-border cooperation frameworks and open partnership access to brands, content platforms and industrial institutions to ensure the steady rollout and long-term operation of the initiative.
